My grandmother has been keeping the gold ring my late grandfather gave to her before he passed away 41 years ago. It is just a plain gold ring with no designs on it. She keeps it safely and properly, she wears it everywhere she goes and never has she tried taking that ring off her finger. 41 years is a long period of time, but still, the ring is forever on her finger. I ever wonder why my grandmother treasures the plain gold ring so much. Well, according to what she says, this ring holds more than a thousand meanings to her. It reminds her of the past, the ups and downs she went through together with my late grandfather, it symbolizes her marriage with my grandfather and lots more. She once told me how my grandfather proposed to her and the way he did it had some things to do with the gold ring. She got to know my late grandfather at the age of eighteen when she was actually going around her village, selling nasi lemak to the villagers there. My late grandfather’s parents were always her regular customers. After a few years going around her village try to sell the nasi lemak cooked by my great grandmother, my grandfather finally had the guts to let out everything he had been keeping in his heart for so long to my grandmother. From that day on, he started accompanying my grandmother each time she goes around the village to sell off her nasi lemak. My grandmother noticed he always wears a plain gold ring each and every single day but did not bother to ask him about it. Then, one day, as my grandmother was walking around the village together with my grandfather, a group of boys started winking their eyes and disturbing my grandmother. My grandfather became really angry that he started beating those guys who disturbed my grandmother. In the end, the guys ran away from my grandfather as they were scared of him. How great can my grandfather get? My grandmother was really touched of what my grandfather did. Then, one day, my grandfather asked my grandmother out. He brought her to the beach at night. They sat under the stars and started talking and singing together. Suddenly, there was silence. Both of them did not talk for a few minutes. Then, out of the blue, my grand father looked into my grandmother’s eyes and started to say sweet and romantic words to her. He proposed to her using the plain gold ring. He says it symbolizes the ups and downs they went through together. My grandmother shed tears of joy and accepted his proposal. They got married and that ring is still in one piece till today. This is also one of the reasons why my grandmother still keeps the ring till now. They are the cutest pair of grandparents I have ever known… STUPIDEST COMPO EVER (: Labels: lame giler. |
